Why Merchants Choose SR Timber
Our products carry third-party accreditation markings, and each delivery comes with full correct documentation for traceability and assurance.
- Beyond batten, we offer a range of timber products: counter batten, carcassing timber, scaffold boards, cedar shingles, and OSB. This means customers can access quality timber construction products from a single, trusted supplier.
- Our supply chain is short and tightly controlled. Our sole supply partner – Timberex,Group managed by Andris Baumanis, a family-run Latvian sawmill that shares our values and are committed to producing a correctly graded roofing batten.
- A sole partnership with Timberex Group means complete control and traceability – from root to roof. While many other suppliers source roofing batten from sawmills that sell to multiple importers, SRT Gold comes from one source, we know exactly how it’s produced.
- Each batten goes through a rigorous two-stage grading process. First at the raw material stage, and again once the batten is processed to its required size.
- During grading, we check dimensions, knot sizes, wane, fissures and splits, slope of grain, rate of growth, distortion, decay, and insect attack. This ensures every piece is consistently sized in width and thickness and meets the strict criteria set out in BS 5534, giving our merchants, roofers, and homeowners peace of mind.
- We’re champions of sustainable and responsibly sourced timber construction. That’s why we hold FSC® Chain of Custody and PEFC Chain of Custody certification. We are members of Timber Development UK (TDUK) and signatories of their Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP). This is a risk management framework for the continuous improvement in meeting the UK Timber Regulation (UKTR), the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), and TDUK Code of Conduct.
- As members of Timber Development UK (TDUK), and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), we stay ahead of evolving standards and ensure our batten is in line with the WPA (Wood Protection Association) Code of Practice for treated wood.
- Our SRT Gold batten is a WPA Benchmark Approved product as well as being CCPI (Code for Construction Product Information) assessed (005300068/0626).
- Our mission is to help create an industry where only compliant batten is stocked, sold, and installed on Great Britain’s roofs.
- We support that mission by staying active in key trade organisations like the NFRC and TDUK. Through them, we share knowledge, influence standards, and advocate for quality at scale.
- We believe in a low-carbon future – and we back that belief with action. We champion timber as a renewable, responsibly sourced building material and support construction practices that reduce environmental impact.
- We help merchants understand the difference between correct and incorrect graded batten. In a landscape of confusion, we look to bring clarity.
- In a marketplace where colour alone can mislead, we clarify what compliance really looks like. That includes raising awareness of how some coloured battens do not conform to the relevant Code of Practice for Roofing Battens , and how incorrect grading marks can sometimes be used to try to legitimise substandard products.
- We work closely with business owners, merchant branches, and account managers, providing direct access to technical support, product queries, and updates, whenever they’re needed.
- Every member of our sales team is either a fully qualified batten grader or on their way to becoming one. We believe if you sell batten, you should understand batten – competently.
- We offer a personal service at a national scale. Whether you’re ordering stock or sorting a technical query, you’ll speak to someone who knows the job and cares about getting it right.
- Across our team, we have decades of experience in timber, roofing, and construction. That means we don’t just sell timber; we understand the market, the pressures, and what correct means in the context of timber batten.
We’re not just about the product. We’re about the people behind it. Our culture is rooted in a deep sense of pride for our trade, it shows in everything we do, from precision grading to responsive customer support.
