A team from SR Timber is taking part in this year’s Pavestone Rally  to raise as much money as possible for two very worthy causes.

The two charities are the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Rainy Day Trust, and we thought it would be good to throw the spotlight on both of them.

Teenage Cancer Trust

The trust was founded in 1990 to improve the cancer experiences of young people aged 13–24 years old through the provision of specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals. It currently has 28 such units across the UK and is instrumental in training staff as teenage cancer specialists. The units are dedicated areas for teenage and young adult patients, who are involved in their concept and creation.

The trust has very active celebrity support, particularly from Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend from rock band The Who, which holds regular charity concerts at Royal Albert Hall.

It also hit the headlines after a campaign started by Stephen Sutton, a teenager from Staffordshire with colorectal cancer, went viral and ended up raising more than £5m in his memory.

The Rainy Day Trust

The trust helps individuals and families who have worked in the home improvement and enhancement industries who have fallen on hard times. In particular, it helps people who worked in manufacture, wholesale, retail and distribution of builders’ merchants, DIY, hardware, potteries and glass, housewares, and garden centres.

It provides support, help and training in a number of ways, from financial help covering the bills through to the payment of essential household bills and maintenance, as well as support in applying for grants and financial support, legal help, and telephone counselling. In addition, it also helps with training and skills and offers apprenticeships.

We hope you’ll agree that both are very deserving charities – which is why the team at SR Timber are determined to raise as much money as possible and have ambitions to smash the £1,500 target that the organisers of the Pavestone Rally hope that each team will raise.
